Funding Options

CBA accepts the following forms of payment for services:

- General Revenue
- Grants & Scholarships
- Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver Programs
- Private Insurance
- Private Pay
- School District Contracts
- Tri-Care/ECHO (South & North Regions)

General Revenue

General Revenue (GR) and In Home and Family Supports (IHFS) are both funded differently through Bexar County MRA. Contact AACOG (see below for contacts) and request information regarding both programs. There is an application process if you are not already receiving these services, it can take up to 6 months to get your first appointment where services are explained and a DMR is scheduled. A DMR is a Determination of Mental Retardation (this does not exclude Autism even though Autism is a separate diagnosis and not considered MR). After that you can request services with your provider of choice. At this time, we have been informed that the limit for General Revenue is $4,700.00 per year for adults and $3,000.00 for children. The limit per year for In Home and Family Supports is $2,500.00 per year.

Medicaid

Unfortunately, Medicaid (in Texas) does not recognize ABA, thus it is not funded through Medicaid. However, Bexar County is one of the only counties in Texas that recognizes ABA as a separate and distinct service from others types of necessary services. See the information outlined below to get connected with a case manager in Bexar County to determine if you might qualify for ABA services, through Bexar County.

Additionally, HCS (Home and Community Based Services), TxHmL (Texas Home and Living), and CLASS (Community Living Assistance ans Support Services) have all recently added BCBAs to their approved providers for behavioral support services. If you have these funding sources available to you, we may be able to guide you through the process of requesting ABA services via behavioral supports, depending on your case management agencies' policies and procedures.

Private Insurance

We are in the process of becoming network providers for the following private insurance companies:

- Aetna
- Humana
- Lifesync
- United Behavioral Health
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- and other major insurance companies...

Texas passed a law requiring all insurance companies to cover ABA services provided by BCBAs. Learn about the bills below:
- HB 1919
- HB 451

To find out more about your insurance coverage, contact your insurance company and ask about receiving Applied Behavior Analysis therapy for your child diagnosed with autism. If you have a case manager, contact them first. They may transfer you a few times, but keep calling. Be persistent - find the right person to talk to, take their name and direct phone number. Tell them you have a BCBA that can provide treatment according to either HB 1919 (ages 2-6) or HB 451 (up to age 10 with special provision). Again, we can help facilitate this process (i.e., often a letter or providership forms are required from us or other individualized proof of our business and credentials).

See this .pdf file from Reinforcement Unlimited for general procedures for getting reimbursement from your insurance carrier for ABA services you pay for out-of-pocket.
