CBA Mission Statement

The 10 ism's

CBA News:

We are appreciative of ALL the support we have received from our participants, parents and provider contractors. At this time, we are making some system wide changes to ensure quality of services and maintain the high level of expertise provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts (BCABAs), Speech and Language Pathologists and related paraprofessionals.

We have been working with many insurance companies regarding House bill 1919 (i.e., Corp-Health, Tri-Care, United Behavioral Health, United Health, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield and DADS) and The Home and Community Based Services (BCBA will be approved to provide Behavioral Supports this year in September for those receiving services on that waiver), TxHmL and General Revenue to ensure state-of-the-art ABA services over sheer number of hours provided and/or quantity based measures. Our services are heavily parent based and follow the line of research that supports transferring ABA technology to the natural supports in place of each participant (i.e., the family and/or related care professionals).

As of 6/15/2008 we are currently taking new clients on a very limited basis and in accordance with availability, thus, there may or may not be a waiting list for services if you are interested in receiving Applied Behavior Analysis or Behavioral Support services. In addition, gas prices have made travel extremely difficult for our therapists (and everyone else) and so, as a strategy to support our team and provide services without losing quality and/or key elements of our program we have moved to a "clinic based model" with community based and in-home services linked on a limited basis. What does this mean? In other words, most appointments take place at our clinic (see contact us button above for address and phone number for more information) and those services that take place in the home or community must be approved by the CEO before being administered.

Lastly, on 5/2/2008 our family had a beautiful baby girl. She was born with severe brain malformations including Microcephaly, Lissencephaly and Polymicrogyria (PMG); therefore, we have been "in the same boat" recently setting up services and juggling through the Texas system which can, at times, be all too confusing and frustrating. This recent addition to our family at CBA, LLC has brightened our minds, and in light of these struggles and related difficulties, that many of you have already faced, our summer 2008 will be on maintenance and growth will be limited until we are able to acquire more certified Behavior Analysts, SLPs and OTs. And so, we appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this news and please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange services (if available, due to high demand and limited qualified personnel nationwide)

Verbal Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis

In his book Verbal Behavior, noted psychologist B. F. Skinner wrote about the relevance of the environment in developing and enhancing communication behavior. Adults provide the language environment for young children whose communication repertoires are just developing. The behavioral interpretation of communication, called verbal behavior, provides a useful framework for determining what to teach and how to teach language skills to young children. Strategies and tactics born out of an understanding of verbal behavior has been effective in (1) establishing communication repertoires for young children without language; (2) strengthening, elaborating, and embellishing existing language skills; and (3) in better understanding, thinking and problem solving.

Learning is FUN!
What principles guide Clinical Behavior Analysis, LLC?
Behavioral intervention and education based programming is based on established principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Behavioral assessment, treatment and educational programming are determined on an individual basis and emphasize proactive approaches to behavior change. Treatment includes teaching functional skills that promote independence and socialization for improved quality of life. Clinical decisions are derived from empirically evaluated research and include adherence from all significant persons involved in the treatment process.

Clinical Behavior Analysis, LLC currently provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Behavioral Supports services for individuals of all ages through General Revenue, HCS, TxHmL and In Home and Family Supports programs in San Antonio, Texas and surrounding areas.
These programs provide a variety of services for families struggling with pervasive and developmental disabilities...

1.) GENERAL REVENUE (GR) and IN HOME AND FAMILY SUPPORTS are both funded differently through Bexar County (MRA) - contact information for eligibility is below; contact AACOG and request information regarding both programs. There is an application process if you are not already receiving these services, it can take up to 6 months to get your first appointment where services are explained and a DMR is scheduled. A DMR is a Determination of Mental Retardation (this does not exclude Autism even though Autism is a separate diagnosis and not considered MR). Thus, after that you can request services with your provider of choice. At this time, we have been informed that the limit for General Revenue is $4700.00 per year for adults, $3000.00 for children; the limit per year for In Home and Family Supports is $2500.00 per year.

We do provide the following services for children, adolescents and adults via General Revenue and In-Home and Family Supports

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Behavior Supports
Speech Therapy

We currently provide 1:1 direct therapy services for children with autism or related diagnoses on a limited basis and encourage families and organizations to rely on internal resources, (i.e., family members, caretakers, staff and related individuals) for facilitating intensive day-to-day learning opportunities. We do provide training of therapists who currently provide 1:1 direct therapy services for families (including ABA, OT, SLP and related services). Direct therapy services are usually provided by parents, family members, volunteers, hired therapists (e.g., BCABA) or agency staff who may have a bachelors degree but no experience is necessary only a desire to learn. Masters level clinicians (e.g., BCBAs) typically provide training, program design, analysis and consultation for individuals as a cost effective method of service provision.
Koegel, R. L., & Koegel, L. K. (2006). Pivotal Response Treatments for Autism. Baltimore, MD: Paul H. Brookes.

An innovative, state-of-the-art treatment for autism, Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) uses natural learning opportunities to target and modify key behaviors in young children with autism, leading to widespread positive effects on communication, behavior, and social skills. The product of 20 years of research from Robert L. and Lynn Kern Koegel--co-founders of the renowned research and training center on autism at the University of California, Santa Barbara--this proven approach is clearly presented in this single accessible volume. Keeping parents involved in every aspect of intervention, educators and therapists can use these research-supported PRT strategies to (a) improve children's academic performance; (b) advance children's communication and language skills; (c) foster social interactions and friendships with typically developing peers; (d) reduce disruptive behaviors; (e) aid early identification and intervention; and (f) reduce ritualistic behaviors and broaden children's interests. Because PRT works with each child's natural motivations and stresses functional communication over rote learning, this comprehensive model helps children develop skills they can really use. With this timely resource, educators, therapists, and parents can support children with autism as they enjoy more positive interactions, more effective communication, and higher academic achievement in natural, inclusive settings.
